There is never a time or place for true love. It happens accidentally, in a heartbeat, in a single flashing, throbbing moment.

Oh, Valentine's Day, Valentine's Day, Valentine's Day ... i find it quite perplexing. Most people love it or hate it (depending on their relationship status i suppose), but i genuinely don't know my opinion on it.

I'm one of life's serial singletons, I've never even received a Valentine's Day card, ever .... Although i did once receive some beautiful flowers .. which were completely unexpected, which i think is what is often missing from Valentine's Day, it seems to be dominated by girls expecting their other half to buy them gifts, and the boys do it so that they're not in trouble. It's supposed to be romantic, where's the element of surprise?!

The day seems to be one big game of oneupmanship and only serves to make those that are alone feel completely unloved. Which, admitedly i do sometimes feel on the day itself when everyone around me are gloating about their flowers and cards and beautiful , magical, perfect evening plans, but then i take solace in the fact that most of these people will probably be moaning about "Dave not pulling his weight around the house" or "liking every photo that bitch puts on Facebook"* the next day while i'll be sat at home in a nice hot bath in the quiet, with a book, being glad i'm not dating Dave ... Anymore.

But then i do see glimpses of genuine love being shown on this day, and even though i'm a sad, lonely love cynic i'm a massive secret romantic at heart (please don't tell anyone). It's nice that there are things happening in the world on this one day of the year that are making people smile, and this can never be a bad thing .. Even if the only only ones smiling are the bosses of Hallmark.

To have and to hold

Thursday i went to my second ever wedding ... one of my best friends in the whole world, Charlotte was getting married.  I was also asked to be Bridesmaid, i've wanted to be one of these since i knew what one was, and i had to wait til i was 27 to be one!  I still loved it.

The night before the wedding, i went up to stay with Charlotte in the honeymoon suite, which was quite exquisite, and easily larger than my whole apartment!  We even had a bath in the main room instead of the bathroom!  Just as we were dropping off to sleep (well as i was, i don't think Charlotte got that much sleep) the groom rang to say he'd been speaking to the night porter about ghosts.  Apparantly there are two rooms in the hotel that are known to be haunted, room 31 and Coniston suite, rooms where people have been known to leave in horror in the middle of the night!  We were in neither of these rooms but this still didn't make sleeping any easier ... every noise from then on sounded exactly like the noise a ghost was likely to make :(  and the fact that i was in a room on my own the next day terrified me ... i actually made a special request to not get any of these rooms when i was checking in the next day.  I was in 107 ... miles away from any of the haunted rooms thank god!  Even when me and Charlotte went looking for these rooms in broad daylight the next morning ... in pyjamas .. it still seemed pretty spooky!

Anyway ....

The wedding was beautiful.  Being female i've often thought about what my wedding would be like.  It varies between wanting a church wedding, one in an old celtic castle or barefoot on an exotic beach somewhere.  Yeah 'm indecisive.  I might let any potential groom have a little input .. if i'm feeling generous ... But yeah, if i'm honest, i know i'll probably never be getting married as it is dependant on someone asking me.

Charlottes wedding was in a lovely little church.  And she looked absolutely stunning in her dress ... i was highly tempted to try and steal it ... i'd look a bit random wearing it on a typical Saturday night however.  We walked down the aisle to a beautiful ballad version of 'Auld Langs Syne' (the wedding being on the 30th December it was pretty apt) a version by Mairi Campbell played in an episode of Sex and the City <3 it definately brought a tear to my eye.

I wore a lovely champagney colored dress with a little fur jacket thing to keep out the December weather.  Luckily Charlotte has impeccable taste so i didn't look like a meringue bridesmad as is often famously the case.  I shall add pictures when i get some.

After the church wedding we had a candlelit dinner at the Abbey Hotel in Barrow, before the meal we let off heart shaped lanterns into the night sky after making wishes.  Mine had a hole in it, but i still got it to float away which i was glad of ... i didn't want my wish tainting!! lol.  Was a nice touch, and the heart shaped lights floating off into the night sky looked beautiful.

I had a great time at only my second ever wedding, i went alone but all of Charlottes and Dave's guests, family and friends, were lovely and all made me feel very welcome and we all had a laugh!  I completely forgot i'd never met any of them before.

So, thank you Charlotte and Dave for letting me be a part of it.  I can't think of a more perfectly suited couple than the two of you, i wish you the best of luck in the future .... i'm confident you won't need it x

A few pictures

I don't take nearly enough pictures, i've decided i will take more.  I don't have a posh camera ... or even a less posh camera, it's a phone camera, so i have it on me all the time ... i really have no excuse to not.
This is a picture of my favourite thing in my house.  I'm sad because it has changed.  Last night, i knocked it over.  On each of the 'o's of 'follow' was something that meant a lot to me.

On the first was a stone, a pebble to be more precise, i aquired it when doing a bit of contemplation in our work chapel.  I'm not religious.  At all.  But our chapel at work is a beautiful place, i work in a Hospice, it's not necessarily a place for worship (well it is also) but people just go there for quiet time, to grieve, to think about their loved ones .. many different reasons.  Our amazing Chaplain puts things in there sporadically to make it more beautiful, upon this visit of mine there was a dish of pebbles, the idea was you made a wish then chose a pebble to keep and represent it ... i wished for love.

Not that I believe that this in anyway would help me in achieving said wish but i thought it was nice, so i kept my pebble, i've had it for about a year now

On the second was a heart pin badge, one of those small ones you get from a High Street shop in exchange for putting a pound in a cardboard collecting box.  This was a British Heart Foundation badge.  I aquired this when we  found out about my baby Nephew Alfie's heart problems (he has Transposition of the Great Arteries, hole in the heart and a closed valve).  To me ... it was Alfie's heart.

When i knocked it over last night everything fell off it behind my cabinet, i've since moved the cabinet and looked behind it ... nothing ... i have absolutely no idea where they could have gone ... i just know that they have gone ... i will however, keeping looking behind, perhaps daily, just incase they appear as quick as they disappeared.

Anyway, do as the sign says.

A few pictures of where i live in the snow the other week.  It was up to my knees, i have seen snow here many a times, but never that deep.  I love snow, for about 3 days i thought it was amazing .. then, i decided it was too cold and slippy.

My Alfie:  Love Personified

My most recent picture .... a rare moment of soberness on a night out.  I hate photos of myself, but this one i like, i'm hidden quite nicely by my hair and hand.

This is a photo of a photo .. one of my favourite pictures in exsistance.  This is of me and one of my best friends, Emma, on the statue outside FAO Schwartz in Boston, USA.  We were about 18 and it was one of my best holidays we were visiting my friend Gemma who was working over there .. one day ... the 3 of us will go back.

Wembley ... and a bus

A picture of me that a friend messed about with, i love it because I look eerie.
